Vampire: The Masquerade Las Vegas Slot Review
This 5-reel, 3-row and 20-fixed payline slot recreates the dark, gothic ambience common to vampire slots, added with a compelling storyline, in regards to the “Storytelling System” coined by White Wolf Entertainment.
Furthermore, being packed up with 2 unique bonuses and multiple features, of wilds, scatters and free spins, Vampire: The Masquerade Las Vegas has a very intriguing tale to tell with a highly ornamented visual presentation. The slot has instantly grabbed the attention of numerous slot fans that favour the Vampires and Mystic themes. Here is our review, that is based on our first-hand experience of the game.
Background on Vampire: The Masquerades RPG
White Wolf Entertainment is part of White Wolf Publishing, founded by celebrity game designer, Mark Rein-Hagen in 1991 to form a merger with Lion Rampant, that he had previously co-founded with designer Jonathan Tweet. Vampire: The Masquerades, is a multiplayer RPG that was created jointly by Rein-Hagen and Tweet, under the World of Darkness fictional universe.
This is the first and probably the most popular game released under the White Wolf banner.
The game went on to bag the prestigious Origins Award for Best Role-Playing Rules, the same year it was released. Ever since then, a total of 4 editions of the original version has been released, further establishing the “Storyteller System” created by White Wolf.
Furthermore, several other associated products have been released based on the RPG, including a number of video and card games, books, as well as a short-lived television series, which aired across the US on FOX channel, for only a couple of episodes.
With a press release on September 2016, Foxium officially announced their deal with White Wolf Publishing for acquiring the IP rights to create a branded slot machine game revolving around the classic World of Darkness game, in a bid to recreate a 90s nostalgia. Though initially, the launch of the game was slated to be through an ICE exhibition on Feb 2017, the production somehow delayed, resulting in the game to finally hit the market in November 2017.
About Foxium Software Platform
Foxium is an up and coming casino gaming software provider, not many punters have heard of yet. The company, established in 2015, is based in Tallinn, and comes with a prestigious background, being backed by some of the experts with long term experience in the iGaming industry. The company has already produced 8 slot titles within a span of more or less 4 years.
In 2017, the company integrated to the Microgaming Quickfire platform, over an “exclusive deal”. This means that the game designs created by Foxium will now run on the Quickfire platform, thus optimising the performance of the games and also adding brand value to be in line with the industry’s best. A smart move, we say!
Game Layout, Symbols & Storytelling
Despite being an adaptation of the classic RPG, the branded slot comes with its own version of graphics and characters that is completely different from that in the original game. However, the slot carries forward the definite essence of the theme of a Vampire slot, being embedded with gothic symbols and rendered in a greyish, pale atmosphere, that seems to take an old world ethos into modern day Las Vegas.
We’ve noticed that in contrast to the Victorian style reels, the controls are of a modern layout. The main game is set against the backdrop of Las Vegas cityscape, flooded or fogged by a rather pale light of the full moon, as is seen from the balcony of a high-rise hotel room, where a supernatural bloodsucking creature lurks in the shadows. The scenes change with the course of the storyline, where there is a light drizzle somewhere and occasional lightning too. The story progresses with the Pick Me Up bonus round, and the scenes change accordingly.
The Vampire Symbols
The game revolves around its protagonist – the Vampire, who is a mysterious man in black, with long locks. He lurks in the depths of the city, looking for a bonanza or a prey, whichever comes first! The vampire symbol is a 3-row tall tile, but can also appear partially, covering 1 or 2 rows. If you land into this symbol in its full 3-row covering form, it will give you up to x1 your bet. The symbol is worth nothing for partial appearances though.
The Vampire is lured by the Prey – the blond lady in green, that seemingly takes a fancy in the Vampire symbols, and unknowingly falls under dangerous liaison. This symbol is also 3-rows tall, that can award you an x0.50 on your bet, only when it appears in its fully visible form.
Other special symbols include:
- Vampire & Prey Tile – is the scatter symbol, that activates the Pick-Me Bonus, if you land into 3 of these Vampire symbols anywhere in the 1st, 2nd and 5th reels.
- The Vampire and Prey Cascading Tiles – is the expanding wild, that activates when the Vampire and Prey symbols appear adjacent to each other, it merges into a 2×3 reel symbol, and add up points to the “Blood or Discipline Gauge” at the side of the reel table, that can win you free spins.
- W Talisman – the wild symbol substitutes all other regular symbols except for the scatter, landing in at least 3 of them can get you x3 your bet.
- Blood or Discipline Gauge – at either side of the reel there are these red and teal coloured vials, that is also a symbol. Random points throughout the gameplay are accumulated in the vials. When they completely fill up, you get exciting bonuses, including free spins or multipliers on your stake.
The highest paying regular symbol is the blood bag, followed by the Crime Scene, Newspaper, CCTV footage, and the original Vampire clan symbols from the World of Darkness including Ventrue, Giovanni, Nosferatu, Tremere and Ravnos.
The Storyline
The storyline intensifies with the activation of the “Pick Me Up” feature (we have talked about the bonus details below), wherein the Vampire enters the Black Dog casino, on a rainy night, with some hidden intention for trying his luck at something “fancy”.
At an almost empty casino, he instantly connects with the Blonde Lady in Green or The Prey, over the Poker Table. The lady invites him to gamble with her. In the next scene, the two celebrate their great winnings over a toast of martini. The next scene leads to the lady’s suite upstairs, from where she takes the Vampire to “admire the view”. The Vampire finds it the right time to “cash in his chips” and strikes at the Prey. And it’s up to the player to determine what happens next!
Play for Free and Real Money
Foxium Casino is still new in the iGaming industry, yet still, there are a number of casinos that have featured their titles. Some of which we have listed herein.
It is strongly recommended that every punter should try out the demo version of the game at least once before depositing real money. And given the strong and intertwined gameplay of the Vampire: The Masquerade Las Vegas slot, we would definitely recommend you to get a hook of it with the free-play version first.
You may play for free at our site, with no registration requirements, just visit our website and start playing. When you are ready to experience the real money action, you may visit any of the Foxium casinos we have listed.
Make sure you go through all the T&C of a casino before choosing a casino, especially, the fact that some casinos don’t allow real money payouts to players from jurisdictions despite allowing them to register. So play safe and have a good time with your online gambling sessions.
Experience an Intriguing Gameplay That Is One of a Kind
Vampire: The Masquerade Las Vegas has the conventional 5-reels and 3-rows layout, with 20 paylines, several winning combinations forming in a straight line, in W shape or M shape, and many others. Refer to the play table to take note of all the winning lines. The combinations are awarded on a left-to-right format.
Start the game with a minimum bet limit of £0.20 and the maximum bet limit of £4, and coin values range from 0.01 to 0.2. There is an Autoplay option, but we had found at least two such instances when customers complained that the feature is restricted in their jurisdiction. However, our gamers didn’t face any such issue.
The Wild Feature
Landing the W symbol substitutes for all other regular symbols and helps you complete or elongate a winning combination. Moreover, if you get multiple or up to 5 Ws anywhere in the reels, it may get you a maximum win of 400 coins.
The wild symbol also works during the free spins. So you have a great potential of bagging a big win, that can be way more than your actual betting value on the particular round.
Pick Me Bonus
The scatter symbol activates this round. If you land in 3 of these symbols anywhere on the reels, it activates the Pick Me Bonus game that comes with separate gameplay, which includes a total of 6 rounds and progresses with a gripping storyline.
Herein, at different stages of the story, you are offered to pick one of 5 face-down cards. The symbol on the card will determine the next stage. You have 2 chances to try your luck. If both the times you get the Skull symbol, then the Prey escapes – it means that you win an actual nothing and the bonus round simply ends!
However, a winning streak can get really lucrative at this round, that may give you a multiplier of up to 50 times the value of the card you have picked. Therefore, the Scatter feature actually binds together the Pick Me mini-game, a multiplier and essence of a Gambler feature altogether in a round.
Blood or Discipline Free Spins Bonus
Conventionally, the Scatter symbol releases Free Spins, but in this game, it’s apparently different. But don’t start thinking that there are no free spin rounds here, in fact, you can make the most of the 2 ways to earn free spins.
The brass vials on the side of the game table denote red for blood and green for discipline. The vials are filled randomly with 1 or 2 points every time the adjacently positioned Vampire and Prey cascading tiles appear. Notice that the Vampire always stays on the left side. When any of the vials fills up to 100%, it calls for a bonus, which depends whether you have activated Blood or Discipline.
The Blood gauge awards 5 to 16 Free Spins, while the Discipline awards a multiplier ranging between 1x to 6x your bet. And what’s more, if both the vials are filled at the same time, you get both the features simultaneously all under a single round. And there is game comes with good volatility, as we got to see all these actions on an average gaming session of 2 hours.
That’s not all. The Free Spins are further segregated in 3 different ways or variations:
- The Fortitude – Each free spin will start with a W wild symbol, randomly replacing any tile.
- The Dominate – The free spins will launch with 1 to 6 expanding wild symbols of the Prey, that will be covering up 3-rows, with the potential of forming a massive winning combination.
- The Presence – Every free spin starts with 4 randomly placed W wild symbols, that moves to another random tile, with the next spin. So each round gets a wild.
The amazing thing about the gameplay and bonus features is that it forms a roundabout, that is interlinked with one another and intrinsically used at high-times of the story, thus creating the ambience of an actual roleplaying game.
Winning Potentials
Foxium features this game with a 96.02% RTP which keeps it at an average-to-good scale. We experienced most of the slot bonuses, and features in a gaming session roughly spanning two hours. Therefore, this game is best played for long hours to enjoy all the bonuses and the Blood and Discipline feature at its best.
Moreover, the free spins starting with the wilds does help you form a winning streak. Go for the maximum bets one at a time to boost your chances for a big win. You can’t adjust the paylines in this game, because they are all fixed, but it allows multiple patterns of payouts.
How Is the Mobile Performance
Based on HTML platform, this is an instant game that is accessed via browsers like Google Chrome. The performance of the application is similar to that of Microgaming Quickfire games. This game will be at mobile casinos, but you won’t be able to download it.
Final Verdict
Contrary to any other slot games, where one has just to spin the reels and wait for a winning combination, Vampire: The Masquerade Las Vegas offers much more active gameplay, which sets it apart from other vampire slots. The visuals are really impressive, nothing short of the sleek and dynamic features that you expect from Microgaming Quickfire brands.
However, we noticed a couple of incidents when the game simply refused to load even with the free-play no registration version. Moreover, it might operate a bit slow in certain old or basic mobiles. Though none of the issues is constant. One more thing to like about this new slot is a rather affordable betting range that caters to punters of all budgets.
